Nerlens Noel signs one-year deal with Sacramento Kings

Official announcement made by Kings' Jason Anderson

Noel's new contract worth $3.1 million, per The Athletic's Shams Charania

The Sacramento Kings have officially signed center Nerlens Noel to a one-year, $3.1 million contract, according to a tweet from The Athletic's Shams Charania. The deal was first reported on July 21st, 2023, at 2:35pm CST by ESPN's Luke Adams.

Noel, 28, is a veteran of eight NBA seasons, having previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and New York Knicks. He is known for his defensive prowess, particularly his shot-blocking ability. Last season with the Knicks, Noel averaged 5.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.

The Kings are hoping that Noel can provide them with some much-needed rim protection. They finished 29th in the NBA in defensive rating last season, allowing 116.1 points per 100 possessions. Noel's addition should help to improve that number, as he is one of the league's best shot-blockers.

Noel is also a solid rebounder, which will be another asset for the Kings. They finished 23rd in the NBA in rebounding last season, grabbing just 44.6 rebounds per game. Noel's 6.4 rebounds per game last season would have been second on the Kings behind Domantas Sabonis.

Overall, Noel is a good signing for the Kings. He is a veteran player who can provide them with some much-needed defense and rebounding. He is also a relatively low-cost option, which is important for a team that is trying to stay under the luxury tax threshold.
